Walter Paepcke was a prominent Chicago-based art collector, businessman, and philanthropist. As a member of the Association of Arts and Industries, Paepcke was introduced to László Moholy-Nagy when the artist immigrated to Chicago to lead The New Bauhaus: American School of Design. Following the school’s closure in 1939, Paepcke supported Moholy-Nagy in opening the Institute of Design in Chicago.
